Description
Michigan’s Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) is a competitive federal grant program under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) administers Statewide TAP throughout Michigan; metropolitan planning organizations (MPOs) administer separate competitions in large urban areas. The program supports pedestrian-safety streetscapes, Safe Routes to School activities, improvements for people walking or bicycling to transit, regional trails and local trail connections, and preservation of historic transportation facilities.
Statewide TAP places particular value on ideas originating with local residents and businesses, robust community engagement, and projects likely to be constructed on schedule. Funded projects are implemented with MDOT oversight.
