Description
The Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP), administered by the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), funds infrastructure and community projects that expand transportation options beyond driving. Supported work includes on- and off-road pedestrian and bicycle facilities, infrastructure that improves non-driver access to public transportation and mobility, community improvement activities, environmental mitigation, recreational trail projects, and safe routes to school projects.
Awarded projects illustrate the program’s focus on connections: shared-use paths linking existing trails, sidewalk reconstruction, pedestrian links between neighborhoods and commercial areas, and riverfront trails. Other funded work includes pedestrian bridges, streetscape improvements, and roadway safety improvements within a park. ODOT’s Local Programs staff maintain the program guidance and application resources for local public agencies.
