Description
Administered by ARDOT’s Local Programs Division, the Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) supports smaller-scale projects connected to surface transportation in Arkansas. Eligible work includes pedestrian and bicycle facilities, non-motorized trails, safe routes for non-drivers, Safe Routes to School activities, micromobility facilities, pedestrian and trail master plans, and vulnerable road user safety assessments. Recreational Trails Program (RTP)-eligible activities may also qualify.
TAP also supports improvements to transportation corridors and their surroundings, including streetscaping, historic transportation facilities, turnouts, overlooks, and viewing areas. Environmental projects may address highway-related stormwater and pollution, wildlife mortality, or habitat connectivity. Sponsors compete for funding through an ARDOT review and advisory committee process.
