Description
The Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside is a competitive, reimbursable federal grant program administered by the West Virginia Division of Highways (WVDOH). It uses Surface Transportation Block Grant funds for nontraditional transportation projects across West Virginia. Eligible work includes the design and construction of sidewalks, bicycle facilities, pedestrian and bicycle signals, traffic calming, lighting, and other infrastructure for nonmotorized travel and safety.
The program also supports converting abandoned rail corridors into trails; building turnouts, overlooks, and viewing areas; managing outdoor advertising; preserving or rehabilitating historic transportation facilities; and environmental mitigation. Projects must relate to surface transportation and fall within a qualifying activity.
