Description
The North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT) administers Transportation Alternatives (TA) to support projects related to surface transportation. Funding covers pedestrian and bicycle facilities, Safe Routes to School, safe routes for non-drivers, abandoned railroad corridor conversions, and community improvements. The program emphasizes safer walking and bicycling, reduced child injuries, and access for children, older adults, and people with disabilities.
Eligible work also includes scenic turnouts and overlooks, transportation-related vegetation management and archaeology, streetscapes, living snow fences, outdoor advertising removal, highway runoff and wildlife mitigation, and rehabilitation of historic facilities that retain their transportation function. A seven-member selection committee reviews projects through a statewide competitive process. The FY 2029 application cycle supports projects ready for construction during the 2029 construction season.
