Description
The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT), in partnership with the Federal Highway Administration, offers Transportation Alternatives funding for projects that improve quality of life in Georgia communities. Eligible work includes pedestrian and bicycle facilities, sidewalks, multi-use and recreational trails, Safe Routes to School projects, and pedestrian-focused streetscapes in traditional downtowns or historic districts.
The program also encompasses conversions of abandoned railroad corridors to trails, scenic turnouts and overlooks, historic preservation of transportation facilities, and certain vegetation management, stormwater mitigation, and vulnerable road user safety activities. GDOT emphasizes projects that address documented walking and cycling needs, connect to broader non-motorized networks, or advance transportation plans.
