Description
The Transportation Alternatives (TA) Program is a federally funded program administered in Kansas by the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT). It supports surface transportation projects that enable walking, bicycling, and other non-motorized travel, improve access for non-drivers, preserve historic transportation facilities, and provide certain scenic and environmental improvements. KDOT selects projects competitively to support transportation equity and local, regional, and statewide transportation goals.
The construction program includes pedestrian and bicycle facilities, abandoned railway corridor conversions, and Safe Routes to School (SRTS) infrastructure. Historic and archaeological transportation activities and scenic or environmental projects are also eligible categories. Non-construction SRTS support is offered separately through the annual SRTS Planning & Programming opportunity.
