Summary: Need-based travel grants help SLB members overcome financial barriers to attending the society’s annual conference.
Key Information: Current SLB membership is required, and only one individual per lab may apply.
The Society for Leukocyte Biology (SLB) provides economic need-based grants to help members attend its annual conference. Members from any country, institution, or background may apply when costs present a significant financial impediment to participation. Need may include lack of laboratory funding or prohibitive dependent-care costs associated with attending the meeting.
The program operates separately from SLB’s merit-based awards, allowing merit recognition and additional need-based assistance where warranted. An ad-hoc panel reviews travel grant requests after the annual merit-award review, taking any merit funding into account when assessing remaining need. SLB intends to support attendance at the full conference, while recognizing that dependent care, school obligations, or other limiting factors may prevent full participation.
