Description
The Wisconsin Department of Justice’s Bureau of Justice Programs administers Treatment Alternatives and Diversion (TAD) funding in collaboration with the Department of Corrections and Department of Health Services. The program supports treatment and diversion instead of jail or prison for nonviolent adult offenders whose substance use contributed to their criminal activity. Its statutory goals are to reduce recidivism, increase public safety, and reduce prison and jail populations through community-based interventions.
This announcement supports new and existing programs in calendar year 2027, the first year of a new five-year funding cycle. Projects may include pre- or post-charge diversion, treatment courts, drug courts, and alternatives to revocation. Programs must reflect statutory requirements, statewide standards, and best practices, and set measurable goals for participant outcomes.
