Description
The Tree Equity RI Grant Program provides competitive, cost-share funding for strategic planting and maintenance of community trees for public benefit. Administered by the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management’s Division of Forest Environment, it is funded through the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative. The program directs planting toward communities living on low incomes, communities of color, and others disproportionately affected by extreme heat and environmental hazards.
Applicants use American Forests’ Tree Equity Score Analyzer to develop planting proposals and identify areas where tree benefits are most needed. Projects must demonstrate resident engagement, community involvement, and public support. Community education and outreach are priorities, alongside planting that produces meaningful climate and health benefits in high-need areas.
