Description
The Tree Equity RI Grant Program supports strategic planting and maintenance of community trees for public benefit. Administered by the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management’s Division of Forest Environment and funded through the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI), it directs planting toward places where tree benefits are not reaching residents equally, particularly communities living on low incomes, communities of color, and people disproportionately affected by extreme heat and other environmental hazards.
Applicants use the Tree Equity Score Analyzer to develop planting proposals. Projects must demonstrate community involvement and public support; education and outreach are priorities. The program page states that no RGGI funds are available for 2026–27 grants and that the opportunity will be reactivated once state funding is restored.
