The Trevor Poyser Species Conservation Fund is run by the Ornithological Society of the Middle East, the Caucasus and Central Asia (OSME). It supports individual bird species research and conservation projects within the OSME region, with a strong emphasis on field-based research and monitoring. The fund focuses on globally threatened species identified through the IUCN/BirdLife International Red List and maintains a defined eligible-species list.
Projects must have clear conservation implications. Research that could lead to conservation actions sufficient to down-list a species is viewed favourably. Where an international species action plan endorsed by AEWA, CMS or IUCN exists, the project must align with its objectives and activities. Collaboration with organisations and experts outside the project country is encouraged, while project leadership must remain with a country national.
