Description
The Tri-Counties Blood Bank Fund is a restricted fund administered by the Santa Barbara Foundation. Established in 1998 following the sale of the blood bank’s assets, it distributes fund income through an annual grant process supporting blood and blood-related products and services in Santa Barbara County. Its three categories are Indigent Care Grants, Education Grants, and Scholarships.
Indigent Care Grants reimburse qualified hospitals for direct, unreimbursed blood-product purchase costs for eligible patients. Education funding supports blood-banking education for medical technology and nursing professionals, physician education in transfusion medicine, and community education about blood and blood diseases. Scholarships support related non-medical post-doctoral study and medical education in hematology/oncology.
