Due Dates: February 1, 2027 (Application deadline)

Funding Amounts: $25,000 for the dissertation fellowship year; up to two awards annually

Summary: Supports doctoral students completing dissertations on Harry S. Truman’s public career or the Truman era.

Key Information: Applicants must have completed dissertation research and be at the writing stage.

    Description

The Truman Library Institute’s Dissertation Year Fellowships encourage historical scholarship on Harry S. Truman’s public career and the Truman era. The program supports doctoral students at the dissertation-completion stage, providing financial support intended to free them from teaching or other employment so they can devote time to finishing their dissertations.

The fellowship supports writing rather than new dissertation research: applicants are expected to have completed their research before the fellowship year. Preference is given to projects grounded in extensive research at the Truman Library. Because the research is presumed complete, fellows are not required to reside at the Library during the award year.
