Description
The Twining Humber Award is an annual, unrestricted award administered by Artist Trust for female-identified visual artists in Washington State. It recognizes artistic excellence, professional accomplishment, and sustained dedication to the visual arts. Support goes to the artist rather than a specified project, with selection focused on the artist’s work, professional background, and continuing artistic practice.
The award is made possible by painter Yvonne Twining Humber (1907–2004), who established the Irving and Yvonne Twining Humber Fund for Artistic Excellence. Her gift recognizes female-identified artists who often interrupt or postpone art-making to meet family responsibilities. Applications are reviewed through a lens of racial equity, considering how structural, institutional, and historical barriers can affect artistic work and careers, alongside geographic diversity.
