The Utah Department of Transportation’s Region Two administers the Transportation Alternatives (TAP) and Safe Sidewalk (SSW) programs in partnership with local municipalities in Salt Lake, Summit, and Tooele counties. The programs support locally delivered transportation improvements that benefit the public, with cities and counties responsible for project design, construction, and maintenance.
TAP supports on-road and off-road bicycle facilities, trails, sidewalks off state routes, vehicle-caused wildlife mortality reductions, Safe Routes to School, and other qualifying transportation alternatives. SSW focuses on pedestrian safety improvements. Its priorities reflect usable right-of-way, crash history, automobile and pedestrian traffic, proximity to schools, and vehicle speeds. Both programs require cooperative agreements with UDOT, and funding is reimbursed after verified successful project completion.
