Launched in 2024 by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), Becas para América Latina is the Spanish-language regional programme within UICC’s Technical Fellowships. It supports visits to institutions within Latin America or elsewhere, tailored to participants’ training needs. The goal is to develop skills, strengthen collaborations, and build capacity at participants’ home institutions through the application and sharing of new knowledge upon return.
The programme emphasises public health and cost-effective, evidence-based cancer control interventions suited to local contexts and wider health systems. Priorities include prevention, early detection, equitable access to affordable and effective treatment, and supportive and palliative care. Implementation, translational, and clinical research may be supported when directly linked to improved patient health and wellbeing. Purely basic research is not encouraged.
