Launched in 2017 by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), Bourses pour l’Afrique Francophone supports health personnel and other cancer professionals based in Francophone Africa. Fellowships enable visits to institutions in the region or farther afield, according to training needs. The goal is to develop new skills and collaborations that provide lasting benefits to participants’ home institutions.
The programme emphasizes public health and training in cost-effective, evidence-based cancer control interventions adapted to local contexts and broader health-system needs. Its 2026 priorities included prevention, early detection, equitable access to affordable and effective treatment, and palliative and supportive care. UICC also highlighted stronger cancer health systems, women’s cancers, lung cancer and person-centred care, with particular encouragement for cervical cancer projects supporting HPV vaccination. Implementation, translational and clinical research should directly improve patients’ health and well-being.
