The International Placement Scheme is run by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC), through UKRI’s Collective Talent budget. It supports primary research at international cultural and research institutions, giving doctoral students and early career researchers access to resources unavailable in the UK or online. Placements must complement and strengthen applicants’ current research, with particular interest in under-represented and under-researched cultures, histories and methodologies.
Hosts are based in the United States, Japan, China and South Africa. Beyond collections access, the scheme develops globally connected researchers through institutional immersion, professional and leadership skills, lasting collaborations, and engagement with wider in-country research, policy and cultural networks.
