Summary: Supports shared, mid-range equipment that strengthens UK bioscience research capability within BBSRC’s remit.
Key Information: Organisations may submit three applications maximum; pipelines and platforms require an eligibility check before submission.
UK Research and Innovation’s Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) funds advanced, multi-user equipment through ALERT 2026. This equipment-only opportunity supports a single instrument, pipeline or platform that addresses shared research needs across BBSRC’s scientific remit. It supports emerging technologies, novel uses of equipment, upgrades and replacement of established workhorse equipment.
The programme prioritises equipment that will be widely used, promote collaboration and extend access to industry and other public-sector users. Its aim is to strengthen infrastructure underpinning discovery and challenge-led bioscience, advancing understanding of life and applying that knowledge for societal and economic benefit. Applications must address long-term technical support, sustainable equipment management and equitable access. BBSRC also encourages openly accessible data formats to facilitate research data sharing.
