UK Research and Innovation’s Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) supports high-quality public engagement that inspires and involves audiences with its funded science, technology, research and facilities. Spark Awards welcome novel approaches and established engagement methods, including co-produced resources, activities for new audiences, and partnerships with STFC public engagement teams or national facilities staff. Projects must demonstrate strong links to STFC-funded work and align with its Public Engagement Strategy.
Fundable projects with a strong Wonder Initiative focus are prioritised. Wonder gives under-served communities an equal voice by listening and responding to their interests in science and technology. It focuses on participants from the UK’s 40% most socio-economically deprived areas, particularly eight- to 14-year-olds and their families and carers. Evaluation and sharing learning should support wider public benefit.
