Summary: Summer laboratory bursaries help undergraduates gain experimental psychology research experience before their final year.
Key Information: An EPS ordinary member, not the student, must apply; only one application per department is considered.
The Experimental Psychology Society (EPS) supports summer research apprenticeships for undergraduates studying psychology or a related discipline who are considering a research career in experimental psychology. Students work under an EPS member’s supervision in a host laboratory during the summer vacation immediately before their final year. Experimental psychology is defined by the scope of the Society’s journal.
The scheme emphasises students’ learning rather than research outcomes. Projects should provide specific training in the experimental procedures, methodologies and analyses used by the laboratory, with clearly identified research activities and benefits to the student. The host may be different from the student’s own institution, but the project must take place in the applicant’s department. Work cannot be a central part of an already-funded project or count towards the student’s degree.
