Description
The American Foundation for Pharmaceutical Education (AFPE) offers this annual award through its Gateway to Research Scholarship program. It supports Pharm.D. and baccalaureate students participating in faculty-mentored research at ACPE-accredited schools of pharmacy. The award specifically serves students who self-identify as coming from historically underrepresented racial minorities in pharmacy.
The program helps students understand how research can improve clinical practice while encouraging those interested in research careers to pursue Ph.D. education. Students gain experience identifying research problems, generating hypotheses, analyzing data, and interpreting research findings for use in practice. It also emphasizes communicating research and clinical data, developing problem-solving and critical-thinking skills, and improving communication with patients and medical team members.
