United Methodist Voluntary Services (UMVS) supports volunteer-based groups and programs that challenge unjust political, social, and economic systems threatening the livelihoods of people of low socioeconomic status and racial/ethnic communities. Funding supports short-term, community-based outreach programs and events, connecting volunteer service with local work responding to these injustices.
The program is supported by the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry (GBHEM) and Global Ministries. It sits within the boards’ broader work to strengthen The United Methodist Church through education, leadership development, mission engagement, and local ministry. UMVS specifically centers volunteer-based outreach and communities whose livelihoods are threatened by unjust systems.
