Description
The UNLV Research Fellow is a faculty leadership appointment administered through the Division of Research. It combines research expertise with appropriations, inter-governmental advocacy, strategy, and community engagement to advance UNLV’s research agenda. The program develops faculty leaders interested in research administration, public policy, and externally funded initiatives aligned with the university’s public mission. Priorities include strengthening state and federal appropriations, advancing research aligned with funding priorities, and connecting community impact with institutional goals.
The fellowship combines structured policy and leadership development with an applied strategic initiative. Embedded within the Division of Research and mentored by senior research and governmental and community engagement leaders, the fellow may develop funding justifications, analyze legislative landscapes, draft policy briefs, strengthen partnerships, create grant pipelines, or evaluate community-engaged research. Professional development covers appropriations, legislative budgeting, funding strategy, sponsored programs, stakeholder engagement, and policy communication.
