Description
The Urban and Community Forestry (UCF) Innovation Grant supports innovative and significant projects that improve the condition and function of urban landscapes and green infrastructure in Montana communities. The Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation (DNRC) administers the program in cooperation with the Montana Urban and Community Forestry Association, using funding from the U.S. Forest Service, Department of Agriculture. The program advances the state urban forestry plan and Montana Forest Action Plan while raising public awareness through urban forestry.
Projects should increase urban forest diversity, health, and resilience and expand tree canopy to enhance ecosystem benefits. Examples include identifying canopy gaps for strategic planting, food forests, community sourcing, and trail projects supporting climate adaptation, pollution control, stormwater management, or human health and wellness. Management and planning for trees at risk are also supported.
