Description
The Urban Grant Program is a competitive, federally funded program administered by the North Dakota Department of Transportation’s Local Government Division. It supports reinvestment in existing transportation assets, with an emphasis on urban cores and central business districts rather than outward expansion. Its objectives include asset preservation, safety for all users, walking, bicycling and public transportation, economic revitalization, and economically sustainable growth.
Eligible work includes roadway improvements, road diets, traffic calming, sidewalks, ADA ramps, bicycle facilities, pedestrian beacons, signals, bus stops and shelters, and transportation-related lighting and streetscape features. Projects supporting redevelopment or vacant and underutilized parcels within established urban areas align with the program’s purpose. Location and intent are more important than work type, provided the work is eligible under Title 23 CFR.
