Description
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) offers these competitive, reimbursement-based grants to help local governments control pollution carried by storm water runoff from diffuse urban sources. Projects are site-specific, generally serve areas smaller than a subwatershed, and target high-priority problems. Planning and construction applications are offered in alternate years.
Planning grants support storm water management plans, local ordinances, runoff-control financing studies, illicit discharge planning, public education, and the initial establishment of local storm water funding programs. Construction grants support structural best management practices (BMPs), such as detention and infiltration basins, as well as related engineering, land acquisition, storm sewer rerouting, and streambank or shoreline stabilization.
