POISE Foundation’s Urban Youth Action Grant supports organizations providing consistent education and enrichment programming or services for Black middle and high school students in the Pittsburgh community. Funding can support general operations, programs, or projects that advance young people’s development and social growth.
The grant continues the legacy of Urban Youth Action, founded by Bernard H. Jones in 1966 to provide developmental opportunities for Black inner-city youth in Pittsburgh. Although the original program stopped offering formal programming in 2012, its vision continues through grantmaking. That vision includes helping young people build practical skills, succeed in school, prepare for adulthood, and gain exposure to business and civic leaders.
