USA Pulses’ annual research call supports work on dry peas, lentils, chickpeas, and dry beans. The FY 2027–28 cycle funds applied solutions for U.S. pulse growers and consumers, including climate-resilient breeding and genetics, on-farm production and sustainability, human nutrition and health, consumer insights, food processing, and value-added products.
The program’s 2025–2030 Research Strategic Plan aims to double U.S. pulse production and consumption. Priorities include productive, widely adapted varieties, improved crop management, evidence supporting nutritional benefits, and innovative uses for pulses and their ingredients. Proposals may address one or several research priorities. Transdisciplinary work across expertise and institutions is encouraged and expected, with support directed toward integrated approaches to complex research challenges.
