The USNC/IUPAC Young Observers Program at the National Academies supports participation in the biennial IUPAC World Chemistry Congress and General Assembly. Established in 1977 by the U.S. National Committee for the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry, it introduces young scientists and engineers to IUPAC’s work and opportunities to address international science policy issues.
Participants attend meetings of IUPAC Divisions and Standing Committees in their areas of interest, learn about global research activities, and build international collaborations. Mentors help Young Observers engage with IUPAC activities and projects. The program aims to encourage continued involvement in the union and prepare its next generation of leaders. Participants are expected to report back on their experience.
