The Vallee Foundation’s Visiting Professorship program pairs outstanding senior scientists with biomedical research institutes worldwide for short sabbaticals that promote intellectual exchange and new partnerships. Originally designed by Bert Vallee, the program offers more sustained interaction than a brief lecture visit, without requiring a semester- or year-long absence. Visits typically last four weeks and support scholarly research, experiments, participation in colloquia, learning new techniques, and engagement with scientists, scholars, and students at the host institution.
Many visits have led to international and interdisciplinary collaborations and new research. Beyond the sabbatical itself, visiting professors join a community of leaders in the life sciences and an enduring global scientific network. The program is designed to support meaningful relationships without significant disruption to family life or other professional commitments.
