Description
The Vermont Biomedical Research Network (VBRN), administered through the University of Vermont and funded by NIH’s INBRE program, supports faculty research through Project, Pilot, and Exploratory Awards. Project Awards support hypothesis-driven research with preliminary evidence of feasibility, positioning investigators for independent NIH support. Pilot Awards support scientifically grounded hypotheses needing experimental evidence and may provide a foundation for subsequent Project funding.
Exploratory CURE/Experiential Learning Awards support developing or implementing research-related curricula and experiential education, including Course-based Undergraduate Research Experiences. These activities aim to stimulate research interest, improve STEM retention, and build biomedical workforce skills. Across the program, VBRN prioritizes early-career investigators, undergraduate involvement, inter-institutional collaboration, and projects incorporating data science.
