Description
The Veale-Straschnov Doctoral Studentship at the Institute of Historical Research (IHR) supports mature students embarking on doctoral research in history. It covers academic fees for new PhD students at the Institute, with both full-time and part-time study supported. Selection takes account of the proposed project's strength, the applicant's academic background, and their financial circumstances.
The award is funded by a benefaction left by historian Elspeth Veale in remembrance of her sister Jean and brother-in-law George Straschnov. Veale held a research fellowship at the IHR in 1950, where she began her work on the English fur trade, later published as The English Fur Trade in the Later Middle Ages.
