Administered by the Arts and Science Council (ASC) and funded solely by Mecklenburg County, Venue Access Grants reduce financial barriers to using publicly and privately owned venues for cultural programming. The creative individuals offering supports affordable space for creating and experiencing arts, science, history, and heritage, with an emphasis on increasing public engagement in accessible, appropriate venues.
Inspired by the City of Charlotte Arts & Culture Plan, the program aligns with Mecklenburg County’s Connected Community and Economic Opportunities priorities. Projects should expand access to physical, social, and informational resources, help build a community where people can thrive, and provide economic opportunities for individuals and businesses. Priority is given to performance or event space, accessible programming for diverse audiences, and resources such as scholarship tickets that reduce barriers for low-income participants.
