Description
The Vermont Housing and Conservation Board (VHCB) supports conservation projects of statewide significance in Vermont. This program brings together habitat protection, public recreational access, and historic preservation, with an emphasis on conserving properties for lasting public benefit. It supports natural areas that provide habitat for rare or endangered species, acquisition of land for public access to trails or water, greenways, and acquisition of important historic properties for public use.
VHCB conservation staff review proposed projects, visit the properties, and prepare project summaries for the Board’s consideration. The Board makes final funding decisions at its regular meetings. Applicants must demonstrate how deed restrictions or other mechanisms will ensure that the investment continues to benefit Vermonters over the long term.
