Description
The Vermont Housing and Conservation Board (VHCB) supports conservation projects of statewide significance in Vermont. This program funds natural areas providing habitat for rare or endangered species, acquisition of land that provides public access to trails or water, greenways, and acquisition of important historic properties for public use. It brings together habitat protection, recreational access, and historic preservation for the benefit of Vermonters.
Projects must demonstrate lasting public benefit through deed restrictions or other mechanisms that ensure the funding has a long-term effect. VHCB conservation staff review applications, visit the properties, and prepare project summaries for the Board, which makes final funding decisions at its regular meetings.
