Description
The Vince Dooley Battlefield Trust Fund Program is administered by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (GADNR) under Georgia Code § 12-3-710 et seq. It supports permanent protection of qualified Georgia battlefield lands through fee-simple acquisition or purchase of permanent historic preservation easements. Eligible battlefields are identified in National Park Service reports covering the Civil War, Revolutionary War, and War of 1812.
The program prioritizes battlefield significance, landscape integrity, threats to historic features, and proximity to conserved lands. Projects are also considered for their potential to support public access, education, research, recreation, tourism, and community development. Applicants must demonstrate the financial and administrative capacity to complete the acquisition and preserve the property over the long term.
