Summary: Seed funding for research in any VAS discipline, with preference for new projects and studies of Virginia’s natural systems and human impacts.
Key Information: All investigators and co-investigators must have been VAS members for six months when applying.
The Virginia Academy of Science (VAS) administers Small Project Research Grants to support projects in any discipline within the Academy. The program gives preference to initiating projects through seed funding and to work that updates or extends knowledge of natural systems in Virginia and the effects of human activity on those systems. Research must take place in Virginia or be sponsored by an institution in the state.
The program encourages investigators to build on existing knowledge, including earlier studies that could be revisited or expanded. Work published in The James River Basin: Past, Present, and Future and The Great Dismal Swamp illustrates this interest. Applicants need not be affiliated with a particular type of institution, but investigators and co-investigators must meet the Academy’s membership requirement.
