Description
The Virginia Agricultural Council, administered through the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, finances agricultural research, education, and services. Established by the General Assembly, it draws funding from assessments on certain agricultural supplies used by farmers and may also accept gifts and grants. Its aim is to strengthen and promote agriculture in the Commonwealth.
The council considers projects addressing current or foreseeable agricultural problems and interests. It favors work capable of producing timely, useful results with potential benefits across a reasonably broad spectrum of agricultural needs. A separate Seed Fund is reserved exclusively for lawn and turf research.
