Description
Established by the Virginia General Assembly and administered by the Virginia Department of Historic Resources (DHR), this program supports the protection of cultural and historical places associated with Virginia’s Black, Indigenous, and people of color communities. It is intended to serve communities that have historically been underserved and underrepresented.
Grants support the purchase of property or a protective interest, rehabilitation or stabilization of historic property, and data recovery such as archaeological investigation. Projects must concern a qualifying historic or archaeological property in Virginia. DHR evaluates proposals for their connection to a specific community, community benefit and involvement, readiness, and response to threats to the property.
