Description
The Virginia Community Flood Preparedness Fund is administered by the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR), in cooperation with the Virginia Resources Authority. It helps regions and localities assess flood vulnerability, plan for resilience, and undertake work that reduces damage from recurrent or repetitive flooding in inland and coastal communities. Funding covers capacity building and planning, studies, flood prevention and protection projects, and certain projects undertaken with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE).
The fund prioritizes work aligned with floodplain management standards and local, regional, and statewide resilience plans, including the Virginia Coastal Resilience Master Plan. It places particular emphasis on low-income geographic areas and community-scale hazard mitigation using nature-based solutions. Eligible work can include protecting critical facilities and infrastructure.
