Summary: Grants support research, education, and marketing projects that strengthen Virginia’s wine industry.
Key Information: Board research projects must include extension or demonstration, not research alone.
The Virginia Wine Board funds projects that advance the Virginia Wine Vision and support a vibrant, sustainable industry for Virginia farm wineries and cideries. Created by the Virginia General Assembly as part of the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, the Board’s FY27–28 priorities are viticultural and enological research, financial sustainability and industry data, technical education and workforce development, and selected marketing projects.
Research must include extension or demonstration. In-person or regional delivery is preferred for education and workforce projects. Marketing proposals should supplement the current marketing plan or introduce Virginia wine and cider to new audiences; general marketing support is not part of the Board grant program. The Board also sponsors a separate, matching Wine Marketing Fund administered by its Marketing Office.
