--- ## Description The Parkinson's Foundation Visiting Scholar Award is designed to help early-career researchers—specifically graduate students and postdoctoral fellows—expand their scientific skills by learning new techniques in a host laboratory setting. Awardees undertake a small project that integrates the new technique with their ongoing work, under the close mentorship of a principal investigator at the host institution. The overarching goal is to foster creativity, multidisciplinary approaches, and the exchange of expertise within the Parkinson’s research community. --- ## Due Dates - January 2027: Full application deadline for Visiting Scholar Awards (anticipated/projected) *All dates are projected based on the annual cycle; check the program page for updates.* --- ## Funding Amount - $4,000 stipend to support travel and housing costs while visiting a host laboratory - Scholars may apply for up to $1,000 additional travel funds to present their research at a scientific conference after project completion - Funds are intended to supplement research, travel, and housing costs related to the host laboratory visit --- ## Eligibility - **Who can apply:** - Graduate students (PhD students in their second year or later) - Postdoctoral fellows - **Project requirements:** - Applicants must be conducting Parkinson's research for their thesis or ongoing work - The proposed project must focus on learning a new technique that is applicable to Parkinson’s research, with a small integrated project required - **Host laboratory requirements:** - The host lab must be at a significant distance from the applicant’s home institution and **not an affiliate** of the applicant’s institution - Host mentors/labs do not need to be engaged in Parkinson’s research, but the technique learned must be relevant to Parkinson’s research - **Other notes:** - Open to applicants regardless of nationality or location - Students must have an expected graduation date at least six months after the end of the project --- ## Application Process - Applications must be submitted online via the [Parkinson’s Foundation grant portal](https://proposalcentral.com/GrantOpportunities.asp?GMID=196) - A complete application includes: 1. Two-page research proposal (developed with both current and host mentors) 2. Statement by the applicant on how the new technique will benefit their Parkinson’s research 3.
