Description
The Washington State Department of Ecology manages Volkswagen settlement funds to reduce air pollution in communities affected by diesel exhaust. Washington is receiving $141 million through federal and state settlements. The funds can support replacing or repowering eligible vehicles, vessels, and equipment with less-polluting diesel, alternative-fuel, hybrid, or all-electric systems, as well as developing electric-vehicle charging infrastructure.
The current Washington State Diesel Reduction Combined Funding Program focuses on replacing or repowering diesel vehicles and equipment with zero-emission alternatives and installing corresponding charging infrastructure. Ecology has also offered separate grants for public, fleet, residential multi-unit, and workplace charging and for cleaner freight vehicles, locomotives, tugboats, and port equipment.
