The Walker Hancock Sculptor-in-Residence Program was established by Manship Artists Residency with support from the National Sculpture Society (NSS). It gives a sculptor two weeks to live and work at Paul Manship’s former home and studio in the Lanesville section of Gloucester, Massachusetts. The program honors Walker Hancock, a sculptor, teacher, and mentor who was Manship’s close friend and in-law and shared his strong ties to Cape Ann.
The residency combines independent studio work with public engagement through talks, demonstrations, or workshops supported by Manship Artists Residency staff. Preference goes to a working sculptor who also teaches and has served their community. The host organization seeks to inspire and nurture the human spirit, values diverse perspectives, and is committed to a welcoming, respectful environment.
