Administered by The Phi Beta Kappa Society, the Walter J. Jensen Fellowship was established in 2001 by Professor Walter J. Jensen to enrich, promote, and improve education in standard French in the United States. It supports educators and researchers whose study of French language, literature, and culture will contribute to that purpose.
The fellowship funds at least six continuous months of study in France, through independent research or participation in an accredited academic program. Its emphasis on standard French excludes projects focused on Creole, Quebecois, or other dialects. Fellows document their progress through reports in both English and French and conclude their study with a final report suitable for scholarly publication.
