Description
Created by the Washington Legislature in 2015, the Washington Coast Restoration and Resiliency Initiative provides funding and technical assistance for coastal protection and restoration. The Recreation and Conservation Office (RCO) administers the program with a steering committee representing the Coast Salmon Partnership, The Nature Conservancy, and the Wild Salmon Center. Its goals are to address priority ecological needs, create jobs, and reduce hazards facing coastal communities.
The program supports land and property-rights acquisition, habitat restoration, planning and design, assessments, inventories, and innovative learning projects. Examples include fish passage improvements, stream bank stabilization, invasive species treatment, and public education about restoration. Projects should use cost-effective approaches to substantially protect or restore ecosystem functions.
