Description
Washington County Community Foundation is a community fund of East Tennessee Foundation supporting innovative programs that benefit Washington County, Tennessee, and its people. Previously known as the Harris Fund for Washington County, it was endowed by Eva Stanley Harris in memory of the Harris Family of Johnson City. The fund encourages creative use of local resources to improve residents’ quality of life.
Its focus is life literacy: skills supporting the economic, cultural, social, and educational well-being of children, youth, and adults. Supported work includes nutritious food access, healthy habits and preventive healthcare, stimulating environments from birth to age five, and reading and literacy opportunities. Other priorities include household management, budgeting and financial planning, independence, self-sufficiency, citizenship, volunteerism, leadership, and belonging. Collaborative proposals involving at least two organizations receive preference.
