Washington State Library (WSL) Professional Development Grants support library staff attending conferences, workshops, and seminars, including in-person and virtual events. Awards can also help bring professional training to a library. The program uses federal Institute of Museum and Library Services funding through the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA). WSL encourages libraries to work together and propose training opportunities that will benefit library patrons.
The program connects professional learning with practical improvements in library services. Each attendee creates a visual presentation explaining why they attended, what they learned, and how that learning will benefit end users. Rather than a general event summary, presentations should highlight useful techniques, inspiring ideas, or planned service changes.
