Description
The Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program’s recreation grants support public outdoor recreation across Washington. The Recreation and Conservation Funding Board administers the program with support from the Recreation and Conservation Office (RCO). Created to acquire valuable recreation and habitat land before it is lost to other uses and to develop recreation areas for a growing population, the program funds five recreation categories: Local Parks, State Lands Development and Renovation, State Parks, Trails, and Water Access.
Projects may acquire land or long-term property interests, build new facilities, or renovate eligible facilities. Examples include parks, athletic fields, campgrounds, nonmotorized trails, shoreline access, fishing facilities, and supporting features such as restrooms and trailheads. Funded places are intended to remain available for public outdoor recreation over the long term.
