Description
The Forestland Preservation category of the Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program supports the long-term protection of working forests in Washington. The Recreation and Conservation Office administers the grants for the Recreation and Conservation Funding Board. Funding helps applicants buy or lease voluntary conservation interests that preserve opportunities for timber production rather than allow forestland to be lost to other uses.
Projects may also enhance or restore habitat on the protected land, including stream corridors, riverbanks, and fish passage. Timber production is the category’s primary purpose; wildlife habitat, clean water, jobs, recreation, and other community benefits are secondary. Public access is not required.
